Transit Police seeking identity of victim of attempted robbery

New Westminster – Metro Vancouver Transit Police have arrested two youths following an attempted robbery in Surrey, but have yet to speak with the victim.

On Thursday, August 1, 2024, just before 9:00 p.m., an unidentified young person was standing with a friend on the platform at Surrey Central SkyTrain Station when they were approached by two teenagers, who grabbed the victim’s shoulder and face, allegedly attempting to steal the headphones they were wearing. The teens were unsuccessful and boarded a train to Scott Road Station where they then boarded a bus.

The unidentified young person notified a SkyTrain Attendant who in turn contacted Transit Police. Officers located the teens on board a bus at 120th Street and 103A Avenue in Surrey, where they were arrested without incident. The victim left before police arrived, and was never identified. We are asking them to call police so we can advance the investigation.

At the time of their arrest, the two suspects – a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy, both from Surrey – who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, were found to have been breaching several court-imposed conditions and in possession of ID not belonging to them. They have been charged with one count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, three counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order and 13 counts of Fail to Comply with Sentence. Both suspects are well known to police and are currently being held in the custody awaiting their upcoming court appearance.

“Everyone has the right to feel safe while taking transit and we are reaching out to the public in hopes that the victim will come forward and speak with investigators so that additional charges can be considered to hold these individuals accountable for their actions.” – Constable Amanda Steed

Anyone who was involved in, or witnessed, the incident is asked to contact Transit Police by phone at 604.515.8300 or by text at 87.77.77.
