Join Metro Vancouver Transit Police.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police (MVTP) patrols North America’s fourth busiest transit system, working both independently and in partnership with police agencies in 17 different jurisdictions – from Horseshoe Bay to Mission.

We’re a fast-growing regional police service – with one of BC’s top policing salaries, room to grow your career, and family-friendly shifts – and we’re looking for experienced police officers, new recruits, Community Safety Officers, and civilian professionals who are excited by the idea of contributing to a progressive, community-based policing team.

We’re solutions-driven, community-focused, and passionate about what we do.

Our work is anything but routine.

In a single day, our officers might help a person in crisis, arrest a drug dealer, help crowds get safely to a concert, pull over a drunk driver, or catch a sexual offender. They prevent crime, lead investigations, and respond to emergencies. And, they’re part of every major event in the region, from play-offs, to protests, to the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
We don’t just work on the system, we work on transit-related policing issues in surrounding communities – investigating, making arrests, setting up safety initiatives, and patrolling the roads and bridges that are part of the transit network. We’re constantly on the move, working in and around transit hubs, buses, SkyTrains, the Seabus, and the West Coast Express.
Wherever transit takes people, our team is there, working to keep them safe.

MVTP offers a rewarding policing career in a unique environment.

Transit Police is responsible for safety and security across the region’s growing transit network, an area encompassing 1,800 sq kms. We’re the only police service in Canada dedicated to a transit system.
Our ability to effectively move between jurisdictions as events unfold, and our specialized knowledge of the transit system and the people who use it, make us unique in the region . No other agency is connected across Metro Vancouver like MVTP – our team is skilled at tracking and intercepting criminal activity on the system, with tools and knowledge unique to our organization.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police Employee Value Proposition

Why join MVTP?

The salary of members of the Transit Police Professional Association (TPPA) is tied to the salaries of other municipal police agencies in Metro Vancouver, which are among the highest in Canada. We offer top-tier wages, a full benefits package, health and wellness programs, and employee and family transit passes.

Transit Police is growing with the system – we’re the third-fastest growing police service in Metro Vancouver. You’ll feel seen and heard in the friendly environment of our medium-size organization, with the potential to fast-track your career as the agency grows.

Our frontline employees work days or nights, not both – a schedule that optimizes your days off, results in better, more consistent sleep patterns, and makes your personal life easier to plan. Officers with young families find that consistent schedules provide better support for planning and childcare.

At Transit Police, our frontline officers are able to be proactive, identifying issues within their Community Service Area, and proposing, developing, and implementing solutions. Whether the issue is theft, gang activity, drug trafficking, sexual harassment, or community outreach, they see what needs to be done in their area and get involved. It’s community-based, street-level policing that makes an impact.

When you’re policing an area on the move, you need to be able to think on your feet and respond to events as they unfold in front of you. Our officers patrol with partners for support, as they move among the hundreds of thousands of travellers who use the transit system every day, visit businesses in and around the network, and attend to transit-related policing issues in surrounding communities.

MVTP officers have the opportunity to join specialty units such as the Explosive Detection Dog Team, Crime Suppression Team, Targeted Mobile Enforcement Team, and General Investigation Unit, as well as be seconded to integrated teams.

An officer or CSO might talk to more than 100 people during their shift, with a high level of positive, community engagement. Transit Police provide a visible, reassuring presence to the public – helping them get safely to their destinations.

At MVTP, every voice matters. All of our employees are integral to our mission and are valued members of our team, from frontline officers to civilian professionals.

Our leadership team welcomes feedback, listens to employee’s concerns, and responds. We value contribution, new ideas, and initiatives, and encourage our employees to take the lead in developing solutions.

In the office and on the street, we’re a “people-first” organization: inclusive, respectful, accountable, supportive, and caring. Our team reflects the world we live in and the communities we serve: inclusive of all ethnicities, cultures, genders, and sexual orientations.

We believe that diversity adds depth to our team, and that we benefit from a wide range of experiences and perspectives.
