Youth between the ages of 12 and 15 have an opportunity to develop leadership skills while learning about Indigenous culture and policing through the Metro Vancouver Transit Police Blue Eagle Community Cadets program. In partnership with Vancouver Police Department’s Diversity, Inclusion, and Indigenous Relations Section, the Vancouver Aboriginal Policing Centre, Surrey Police Service, and Surrey Schools, and with funding from the Vancouver Police Foundation, the program gives young people the opportunity to:
Work in a team environment
Help their community
Explore various career options
Take part in a variety of activities
Strengthen physical and mental health
Meet strong Indigenous role models
Increases physical fitness and confidence
Although the Blue Eagle Cadet Program has a strong focus on Indigenous culture, applicants do not need to be of Indigenous heritage to participate. Anyone can apply who wishes to experience Indigenous culture and protocols, and who is:
12-15 years of age, of any gender
A resident of Metro Vancouver
Attending school full time
Interested in learning more about the different aspects of policing
Motivated to learn new skills and welcome new challenges
Willing to be an active and respectful participant in the program
Registration is FREE. There is no cost to participants.
