Transit Police Celebration of Light Recap: July 25th – Night One

New Westminster – Transit Police encountered relatively few problems during the first night of the 2015 Celebration of Light. Passenger loads were lighter than those experienced in previous years with passengers generally quiet, respectful of one another and including many families.

Liquor enforcement was a focus for our officers who conducted a total of 17 liquor pour outs. This is compared to 49 liquor pour outs on night one in 2014.

A 48 year old intoxicated male was arrested at Yaletown Station for Breach of the Peace.

A 19 year old male was arrested at Scott Road Station for Intoxication in a Public Place.

Several fights involving intoxicated persons were dealt with following the event but without significant injuries.

All ticket totals are not yet in but approximately 12 violation tickets were issued.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police is committed to maintaining order, promoting safety and reducing crime on the transit system in Metro Vancouver.
