Transit Police Arrest Suspect in SkyTrain Stabbing

New Westminster – An appeal to the public by Metro Vancouver Transit Police has led to the arrest of a suspect who allegedly stabbed another passenger on board a SkyTrain on April 15th.

As was reported by Transit Police, on April 15, 2023, just before 1am, the male victim and his girlfriend were onboard a SkyTrain travelling through Surrey when there was an interaction between the victim and another male passenger. As a result of that interaction, the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim with a sharp object. The victim was met by Emergency Health Services at Surrey Central Station and taken to hospital while the suspect continued on the train to King George Station, where he exited the transit system.

The suspect, who is known to police, has been identified as a 29-year old man from Burnaby. Transit Police will be recommending charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose. The suspect was arrested on Friday, April 21, and has been released with conditions not to possess knives or to have any contact with the victim. His first court appearance has been scheduled for June 14, 2023, at Surrey Provincial Court.
