Prolific Sex Offender Convicted and Sentenced on Two Counts of Sexual Assault

Jason Steven Taylor, a prolific sexual offender on transit, has been convicted of two counts of Sexual Assault and designated as a High Risk Violent Offender.

On May 2, 2015, Taylor sexually assaulted a young woman on a Coast Mountain Bus at the MetroTown bus loop. A witness reported the incident to Transit Police using the Transit Police text code.

On May 19, 2015, Taylor assaulted another young woman on a Coast Mountain Bus on Lougheed Highway in Coquitlam. The woman reported it to Transit Police who recognized the suspect as the same man in the previous incident. An investigation resulted in Taylor being charged with the two counts.

Taylor has been sentenced to 9 months in jail, with a projected release date of May 19, 2016, after adjustments for time served. He has also been sentenced to 3 years probation with conditions that include:

  • No weapons
  • No contact with victims
  • No possess cell phone or WiFi capable device
  • No GO Coast Mountain, TransLink, SkyTrain or SeaBus property or vehicles

Taylor, 45 years old and a resident of New Westminster, has been designated as a High Risk Violent Offender and will be monitored by the Ministry of Justice High Risk Identification Program. He has three previous convictions for Sexual Assault on the Transit System.

Transit Police Chief Barry Kross stated, “We are encouraged by the response of the court in this case. Investigating sexual offences on the transit system and bringing those responsible to justice is, and will continue to be, one of our top priorities.”
