Concurrent Investigations by New Westminster Police and Transit Police Lead to a Dozen Charges

New Westminster – Investigations by Metro Vancouver Transit Police and the New Westminster Police Department have resulted in a total of 12 charges being laid against a Surrey man.

At approximately 3:30 am, March 1, 2015, two men broke into the 22nd Street SkyTrain Station in New Westminster and then broke into an ATM in the station, removing the cash box before escaping. Transit Police initiated an investigation.

At 4:45 am, March 3, 2015, New Westminster Police responded to a report of a break in to the Braid Street SkyTrain Station in New Westminster. After breaking into the station, a man attempted to break into a ticket vending machine and then broke into an office in the station. He was arrested a short time later by New Westminster officers as he walked along the tracks towards Lougheed Station.

Transit Police investigators recognized the suspect in the March 3 incident as one of the suspects in the March 1 incident. During their investigation, Transit Police recovered a significant quantity of cash.

Both police departments forwarded a list of recommended charges to Provincial Crown Counsel. The following charges have been approved and laid against Peter Harvey Hogan, 48 years, resident of Surrey. Hogan is well known to police.

New Westminster Police charges:

  • Break and Enter
  • Theft over $5000
  • Possession of Break In Instruments
  • Disguising Face with Intention to Commit an Offence
  • Possessing Breaking Instruments for Coin Operated Device
  • Mischief over $5000

Transit Police charges:

  • Break and Enter
  • Break Out after Committing an Offence
  • Possession of Break In Instruments
  • Mischief
  • Possessing Breaking Instruments for Coin Operated Device
  • Mischief to Obstruct the Use/Enjoyment of Property

Hogan has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance March 16, 2015.
