Assault Suspect Identified Thanks to Public Appeal

New Westminster – An appeal to the public, by Metro Vancouver Transit Police has led to the identity and arrest of a suspect believed to be involved in an assault on the New Westminster SkyTrain platform on April 6, 2018.

On May 2, 2018, Metro Vancouver Transit Police appealed to the public for help in identifying a man seen on CCTV video throwing coffee on a female before shoving her to the ground. This appeal led to several tips which the Transit Police General Investigation Unit rigorously investigated.

Transit Police has now identified a 27-year-old suspect from Coquitlam, well known to police, who has been arrested and released on a Promise to Appear. Transit Police was alerted to the suspect by a member of the public who recognized him from local media coverage. On May 12th, 2018, Transit Police officers attended a Coquitlam hotel where the man was located and arrested. A charge of assault has been recommended. The man’s first court appearance is scheduled for July 11th, 2018, 9:00 a.m., in New Westminster Provincial Court.
