In a Metro Vancouver Transit Police-led project near Scott Road Station, 41% of commercial vehicles stopped for inspection needed to be taken out of service after failing to meet the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s inspection standards*.

On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Transit Police, in partnership with nine other agencies, conducted safety inspections of commercial vehicles in the area around Scott Road Station. Over the span of six hours, 95 inspections were completed, resulting in:

  • 39 commercial motor vehicles taken out of service
  • 41 Provincial Violation Tickets Issued
  • 22 Notice and Orders issued
  • 30 City of Surrey Bylaw Tickets issued
  • One prohibited driver was arrested

26 officers from Transit Police and nine other agencies participated in the project, including:

  • Commercial Vehicle Safety & Enforcement (BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit)
  • City of Surrey
  • City of Langley
  • Vancouver Police
  • Burnaby RCMP
  • Coquitlam RCMP
  • Coquitlam Bylaw
  • Delta Police
  • New Westminster Police

“This project was based in the area around Scott Road Station due to the large amounts of commercial vehicles travelling through the area and over TransLink’s Pattullo Bridge. Everyone who uses transit and the roadway deserves to have a safe journey”.  – Constable Amanda Steed

*This percentage is not representative of the condition of vehicles in the commercial transport industry as a whole. Only vehicles flagged by officers trained in identifying visible or potential safety defects were pulled over for inspection.
