Transit Police identify and arrest man after unprovoked assault on bus

Metro Vancouver Transit Police have arrested a suspect after a man was injured in an unprovoked attack while on board a bus in Vancouver.

On July 17, 2025, around 12:00 p.m., a man was travelling on board a bus in Vancouver when another man, whom he didn’t know, sat down a couple of seats away. Without provocation, the suspect stood up and punched the man in the face before quickly leaving the bus on foot. The man suffered serious injury to his face and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Transit Police officers launched an investigation, and soon determined that the suspect had also been involved in a mischief file several days earlier involving damage to an electronic advertisement board. Using evidence from both incidents, officers were able to locate and arrest the suspect. The suspect has been released with several conditions, pending his first court appearance. Transit Police will be forwarding one count of Mischief under $5000.00, and one count of Assault Causing Bodily Harm, to Crown Counsel.

“Police have numerous tools to use when investigating crime. In this case, CCTV played a crucial role in identifying the suspect. The transit system has an extensive network of cameras, which are often used to assist with being able to identify, and arrest people who threaten public safety.” – Sergeant Dustin Szakacs
