Support staff work seamlessly with police officers to keep our organization running smoothly, and do much of the behind-the-scenes work at Transit Police.

We’re looking for talented and driven people to fill the diverse and challenging support positions in our police service. Support staff roles include analystis, court liaison officers, information management, administrative and managerial roles, and more.

Positions range from casual, part-time, full-time, temporary, and permanent in several unionized, exempt, and contract roles. The hiring process is demanding, and includes background checks, and polygraph examinations. Post-secondary credentials and policing experience are not essential but preferred.

Operations Communications Centre (OCC)

Our Communications Operators (dispatchers) perform a variety of telecommunications duties to assist sections of Transit Police and members of the general public in dealing with incidents of a criminal nature or public safety. We respond to calls for service and public inquiries, and evaluate, prioritize and dispatch calls to our Officers using our police radio and phone system. We take reports by phone and text and provide time-sensitive information to police. Our Operators use a variety of Police databases such as CAD, CPIC and Prime. Our dispatchers monitor our deployments in assigned patrol zones covering a wide area of the Lower Mainland.

Qualifications

  • A strong desire to help the community and an interest in public safety
  • A critical thinker with strong problem solving abilities
  • Sound knowledge of Metro Vancouver geography
  • Excellent typing speed and accuracy
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure
  • Grade 12 graduation
  • Can successfully obtain and maintain a police security clearance
